Tis the season to be jolly—except when you’re not…

This time of year can bring so much joy, while at the same time provoke feelings of overwhelm and anxiety. The end result? You feel frustrated and stressed out.  Believe me, I’ve been there, done that.  But now that I know what helps during these moments of panic, I want to bring some easy natural solutions so you can be prepared if this happens to you during the holidays (or really anytime throughout the year).

First of all, (and most importantly) it’s normal to feel this way!

Take a step back and acknowledge the way you’re feeling.

Don’t judge yourself for feeling the way you do, just be aware of it.  Self-awareness is so powerful. Remind yourself that these feelings of overwhelm and anxiety do not define you.  I often use an affirmation to tell myself, “I am not my emotions”.

Apply essential oils.

After I’ve non-judgingly acknowledged my stressful feelings,  I reach for my essential oils.  There are a ton of essential oils that may help with your anxiety and overwhelm, but I want to share my two absolute favorites with you.  I use doTERRA oils and have had great success with Peace, and Adaptiv (which is brand new).   They are both blends (which means that they have multiple oils combined to make them so amazing). If you don’t have these oils and want to purchase them, click here.  Both l blends contain Lavender oil, so if you only have that on hand, it can help as well.

How to apply these oils.

I apply Peace over my heart and on my wrists.  I then put Adaptiv on my hand between my thumb and index finger and to the back of my neck.  I happen to LOVE the smell of both of these oils, but I also realize that scent can be a very personal thing.

Quick tip: If you don’t like the smell of an oil, but you want to receive the benefits of it, you can apply it to the bottom of your feet.  Your pores are larger there and the oil will be absorbed quickly into your bloodstream, allowing you to benefit from the healing properties of the oils.

Try some deep breathing.

Once you’ve applied your oils, you can enhance the benefits by practicing some deep breathing.  If possible, I like to find a quiet and comfortable spot to sit down for a few minutes.  I realize that’s not always an option, but if you can, definitely take advantage.  I sit comfortably and focus my attention on my breath.  I like to count to four as I breathe in deeply, hold my breath for four counts, and then exhale to the count of four.  I find that breathing after I’ve applied my oils helps me really take in the calming aroma and counting makes me re-focus my thoughts away from the things that are causing me stress.

Next time you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed and just plain old stressed out, I would love for you to give this a try and let me know how it goes. If you have any questions, please feel free to reply to this email or fill out your contact information in this link.
