Have you ever been thinking something and then someone else says the same thing out loud? Here at Mindset Mamas we tend to hear that a lot these days! And that’s a great thing because it means we’re reaching the moms we can best serve.
We’re getting deep and going inside the head of our typical member of the Mindset Mamas community.
The stories we tell ourselves
Using the self-discovery process to figure out you’re more than just a mom:
I’m a mom...maybe a new mom or maybe my kids are a little bit older. I have one or maybe five kids. The number of kids I have and their ages don’t really matter. It’s not about what’s going on with them, but what’s going on with me.
I live in this world of Facebook and Instagram and Pinterest. I see my “friends” online and they only post the perfect stuff. I go to a birthday party and it looks like a Pinterest board threw up glitter and banners everywhere.
I smile on the outside, but inside I’m lost. In fact, I feel like I’ve lost myself. I used to be fun! I used to laugh and smile a lot.
And then, all of a sudden my dreams came true. I found the perfect partner, got married, and had these amazing, gorgeous, special, lovely babies.
But in my mind, all hell broke loose. Everything I ever wanted has contributed to me feeling like I’m losing my sense of self.
Diapers and finances and colds and late nights (pumping, not partying) became my life. And now I’m in this spot...it’s a tricky one and it’s making me feel incredibly guilty. It’s this little voice that won’t go away that’s telling me I literally have everything I’ve ever wanted in this life and so I should be incredibly grateful and happy. But the voice that resonates more with me is the one that simply isn’t.
Sure, I AM grateful and there are most certainly times that my happiness and joy are overflowing. But in my day to day life, things seem hard. And then, what makes things worse, is suddenly I realize that I don’t know who I am anymore.
I'm the mom. I'm a partner. I’m an employee. But, where did the old me actually go? It’s time I wake up. It’s time I find her again. It’s time I redefine who I am...on my own terms. I have dreams and things I want to accomplish—like figuring out what I’m meant to be doing with my life and actually going for it. I want to believe I can succeed while still being the most amazing mom and partner.
But, honestly, I have no idea where to start.
